TSG Balaclava

TSG Balaclava in Victoria has been a fixture in the local community for decades, though opinions about the place tend to be a bit of a mixed bag these days. The shop’s got a pretty decent range of tobacco products, and visitors say they’re particularly good with stocking different brands. If something you’re after isn’t on the shelves, we’ve heard the staff can usually order it in for you, which is pretty handy.

The store keeps fairly consistent hours throughout the week, opening at 8:40 in the morning Monday through Saturday, and staying open until 7 in the evening. They start a touch later on Sundays at 9 am and close up at 6:30 pm. They accept all the usual payment methods including cash, cards, and EFTPOS, so you won’t need to make a special trip to the ATM.

Now, here’s where things get interesting. While some folks rave about the customer service (there’s this great story about the owner staying open late for some desperate customers needing rolling papers, proper legend behavior), others have had different experiences. Recently, there’s been a bit of chat about their prices running higher than nearby competitors, and some customers mention they’ve copped a bit of attitude when questioning the costs.

The shop stocks all your typical tobacconist items like cigarettes, rolling papers, and lighters. The product selection seems to be one of their strong points, with regulars appreciating the variety they maintain. But fair warning, you might want to compare prices with nearby shops if you’re watching your wallet, as we’ve heard some products might be a bit dearer than what you’d find next door.

It’s worth noting that while some old-timers have been shopping here for decades, the atmosphere these days seems to depend a lot on who’s behind the counter when you visit. Some staff members are described as absolute champions, while others might be having a bit of an off day. Still, if you’re in Balaclava and need your tobacco supplies, it’s a reliable spot that’s been serving the community for years.
